About project

Originally built in 1909, the Jax building in Lowertown St. Paul is a contributing property of the Historic Lowertown Preservation District, a significant neighborhood relating to the city’s rich industrial past.

Kaas Wilson Architects worked to highlight and preserve the exterior and interior spaces in the 48 unit historic warehouse building. The exterior includes restoring the original wood double-hung windows along 4th street, prism glass transoms at street level and refurbishment of skylights. The interior space preservation includes the intricate birdcage elevator with staircase wrapping around it, and the hexagonal mosaic tile floor.
