Carefully designed around the existing structure, the 80 new market rate units at 700 Central make it a unique project in the Twin Cities.
On May 16, 2017, Finance & Commerce released it’s winners list for the 2016 Top Projects Award. A panel of judges looked at the degree of difficulty, creativity in design, innovative construction techniques, cooperation among contractors and management, and sustainability efforts. 700 Central was honored with an award.
700 Central is a unique project unlike any other in Northeast Minneapolis. Built in 1897 and 1909, it housed a furniture manufactory, warehouse, and showroom for nearly four decades before housing a casket maker, followed by public storage, before sitting vacant for a decade.
Transforming and reutilizing two historic, functionally obsolete warehouses into market rate residential units completely differentiates it from the new construction projects currently proposed in this neighborhood and even more new construction projects opening throughout the city. The two different, yet complementary personalities of the buildings will draw appreciation from and have already proven to attract the authentic and artistic Northeast community, as well as others from the metro area.
In its finished form, 700 Central provides a unique combination of historic character blended with the amenities of a newly constructed market rate property. Especially rare in historic rehabilitation projects is secured underground parking. With amenity spaces in the lower level as well as a brand-new, downtown-facing rooftop lounge and deck, there is something for everyone.
